A Behind the Scenes Look at the Warehouse
Category : Business Matters
Except for the customers that get to know us really well because of multiple projects or things we have in common, a lot of our customers don’t get to see the behind the scenes goings on at the warehouse.
Here’s a rare sneak peek. It’s rare because most folks only see the showroom or us at a jobsite. If you ever want a tour of the warehouse, come on by. Dave Sr. has an impressive collection of antique tools on display.
Many times, though, it’s the stuff behind the curtain that makes us a better company. A lot of our competitors simply don’t have this, as many of them work out of tiny shops or their backyards and don’t have a facility to work out of.
I recently changed out all out huge shop lights over to LEDs. Why is this important? It’ll save us a lot of money on the power bill. This translates to lower prices for you because I keep less overhead.
Our main shop lights were huge metal halide lamps. Very bright, but also very expensive. They also take forever to come on when it’s cold or first thing in the morning.
Once I replaced them with new LED lamps, the lights were brighter, cheaper, and lit up instantly.
You may want to consider doing this in your house too. LED lights are expensive to buy, but the cost savings should make up for them in the first year. They’re especially great for lights that are on a lot like outside flood lights or your living room lights.
As an example, my new lamps cost $150 each compared to the metal halide bulbs. We have six of these in our warehouse.
If you’re ever interested in any of the other unique aspects of our shop like the large 12′ metal brake, come on by. The brake we bought used from a competitor that went out of business. It’s so heavy it requires a forklift to move.
